Assignments 6-10 Reflection

The Wikispaces assignment was fun and I learned a lot about the development of Microsoft Word. I have worked on Excel at work, but I haven’t taken the class on Excel yet. I learned about how to find the features in the new 2007 version. I had used the chart features before in Word, but not in Excel, so it was really good experience. I learned about a lot of features I was not familiar with. I read about GoogleDocs in the Wikispaces assignment. I had never heard about GoogleDocs before, and it was fun doing the GoogleDocs assignment. I think assignments 6-10 covered a lot of useful tools that I will use in the future.

Microsoft Word and CS100 Assignments 1-5

While using Word I had seen security warnings regarding macros, but I was not aware of how much risk documents containing macros had created. My research for Assignment #7 was very informative. I had no idea how extensive the virus threat resulting from the use of macros had been. I am certainly glad that this risk has been virtually eliminated by patches designed to correct the situation and that this problem has been addressed in recent versions of Word.

I have had experience with Word. I took classes in the 2002 and 2003 versions and have also worked with Word 2000 Professional. Assignments 1-5 were a great refresher. I am sure that someone who has not had this experience would find these exercises extremely helpful. A basic knowledge of a word processing application is invaluable while attending college. I think every new college student should take a class such as this to prepare them for the assignments that they are likely to encounter in other classes. I also really enjoyed the Personal PC Issue readings that were assigned. The Issue articles are very informative and I appreciate the opportunity to learn about these topics.

Blog Uses

A blog is a useful way of publishing information on a web location where it can be easily viewed by many. This blog could be useful to post information or assignments for the instructor or other students to view. It could be used by a student to communicate questions or concerns. However, a blog is only useful to convey information if others take the time to view it.
